Hulu Review

November 14th, 2007 by Alec McNayr

Shortly after writing a mini-rant against NBC and Hulu, I got my invitation to view the private beta. After four minutes of rigorous testing, I can say this: the site is fast, the clips look good, and the experience is highly positive. Since it’s a private beta, the community functions are a little bare, but that may change as it gets opened up.

My big complaint may actually be a compliment: there isn’t that much to look at. I’m used to cruising (or Stumbling) through YouTube, which has an endless supply of video. Half the fun is figuring out if what you’re looking at is amazing… or if it’s crap.

But on Hulu, there’s a list of (what I perceived to be) about 200 shows, movies, or clips to watch. That’s it. Only two hundred! I almost didn’t know where to start. I’m used to a deluge of clips, but this was a limited, contained experience. It was the closest thing I’ve found online to “flipping around” TV with the remote… with a solid design, high-quality video, and only featuring top-of-the-line content, Hulu may actually be a destination site.

See for yourself:
